            "Rainbow Bridge" by Gail Hogan

Gail writes, "Most people who have animals have suffered the loss of them, or will some day.  So many of my customers have told me of pets that have gone on and how sorely they are missed.  Some people have no hope and others have great hope that they will see their pets again; I believe strongly that we will - it just could not be any other way.  This painting represents all the animals, pets and wild life, that have had to make the journey over rainbow bridge.  I purposely left part of the cat off the board to show that there would be more to follow.  This painting shows one cat who is crossing over, tail raised high in expectation of happy things; a dog is taking the first steps up; a bunny sits patiently waiting her turn; and two cats, a tuxedo and an orange tiger, watch, maybe just a little apprehensive about taking that first step.  The birds give the painting a sense of freedom and portray the journey as a peaceful and easy one with no fear."

            "In The Candle's Glow"

Warm light coming from far below
Twinkling, sparkling is the candle's glow
All is well up on the ridge
The place we know as Rainbow Bridge

Loved ones sleeping in heaven's light
Tended by candles in the night
Peaceful dreams be theirs to keep
As they slumber in this night so deep

Hearts on earth that miss them so
Take comfort in the candle's glow
Watching for them in skies above
We are bound eternally by love

            Lend Me A Kitty

I will lend to you for a while, a kitty, God said.
For you to love her while she lives and mourn for her when she's dead.

Maybe for twelve or fourteen years, or maybe two or three,
but will you, 'till I call her back, take care of her for me.

.She'll bring her charms to gladden you and (should her stay be brief),
you'll always have her memories as solace for your grief.

I cannot promise she will stay, since all from earth return,
but there are lessons taught below I want this kitty to learn.

I've looked the whole world over in search of teachers true,
and from the folk that crowd life's land, I have chosen you.

Now will you give her all your love, nor think the labor vain,
nor hate me when I come to take my kitty back again.

I fancied that I heard them say "Dear Lord Thy Will be Done",
for all the joys Ms. Kitty will bring, the risk of grief we'll run.

We'll shelter her with tenderness, we'll lover her while we may,
and for the happiness we've known forever grateful stay.

But should you call her back much sooner than we've planned,
We'll brave the bitter grief that comes, and try to understand

If, by our love, we've managed, your wishes to achieve,
In memory of her we loved, to help us while we grieve,

When our faithful bundle departs this world of strife,
We'll have yet another kitty and love her all her life

            HEAVEN'S DOOR

If I should go before you,
            If life on earth were through;
I'll stop just inside Heaven's door,
And there I'll wait for you.
You've but to look 'cross star filled skies,
            Past the moon and then beyond;
To know my leaving could never break,
            This heart's undying bond.
And if you should go before me,
            If your journey on earth were through;
You know I will be close behind,
I'll never be far from you.
Across the span of time and space,
            This love will reach this far;
For you'll always carry a bit of my heart,
            No matter where you are.
We've no way of knowing who will remain,
            Or who will go on before;
But if I should go first, you'll find love there,
I'll be waiting just inside Heaven's door.

            BIG HEART
            by Anita Burney

            One day up in heaven,
                 While God was looking down,
He saw people alone and sad,
And He gave a little frown.

He wanted to think of something,
                 To make those people smile,
Then the answer came to Him,
                 After He'd thought awhile.

                 He'd give them a companion,
                 One whose love was true,
                 Faithful they would be,
No matter what the people do.

            Four legs they would have,
                 And they would never fail,
To greet these people every time,
                 With a happy wagging tail.

He'd give them a big heart,
To hold all the love inside,
                 That love would last forever,
                 Even after they had died.

                 For across that Rainbow Bridge,
                 Would be a special place,
Where they would wait and watch,
                 To see their master's face.

He thought of what to call it,
                 And then the answer came.
                 If you spell "God" backwards,
                 You'll have this animal's name.

Our hearts are still sad, and we continue to speak of him as though he's in the next room. I miss him at the most unexpected moments...

I stood by your bed last night,
I came to have a peep
I could see that you were crying
and found it hard to sleep.
I purred to you so softly,
as you brushed away a tear.
            "It's me, I haven't left you,
            I'm fine, I'm well, I'm still here."

I was close to you at breakfast..
I watched you make your tea.
You were thinking of the many times
your hand reached down to touch me.
I gently put my paw on you,
            smiled and said.."It's me ...
            I'm never far away...
            I'm still here."
            You sat there very quietly,
            then you smiled, you knew.

The day is over, I smile...
            you yawn, and say,
            "Goodnight ... God Bless,
            see you in the morning."
When the time is right for you
            to cross the brief divide
            I'll rush to greet you...
            we'll stand side by side.
I have so many things to show you..
There is so much for you to see..
be patient ... live your journey out..
and then, come home to me..

"Our hearts are broken, we are so very sad, and miss him so much, but we know he is at peace and no longer suffering.  He's with God now, and we will meet again someday.  We have wonderful memories of our time with Scamper and the love we shared.  Perhaps he's chasing butterflies with our other kitties who have proceeded him across the Rainbow Bridge."

February 5, 2005...Annie, the lovely tortie w/ white Maine coon girl below passed over Rainbow Bridge.  Her purrrson, Adrienne, writes of her:  She had a full measure of tortitude--things had to be done her way, when she wanted it, and how she wanted it. She loved her bed,  a soft stuffed cat  pillow by the fireplace when it was on.  When it wasn't on, she was generally on my bed.  She got attention when she wanted it and how she wanted it--she loved occasional scritching but not extended periods of attention.

March 14, 2005, our dear friend, Kyle, told us her sweet friend, Pepper, a fun little Sugar Glider, had passed over Rainbow Bridge.  Pepper brought many happy moments to Kyle and her family, and she remembers him with this wonderful painting by her friend, KO.  We at Cat Happy had the opportunity to meet Pepper - what a beautiful, bright-eyed wonder-filled little glider he was!  Thanks for giving Pepper such a wonderful home Kyle...keep his fun memories with you!

Thunder Paws - the Thinking Cat

                Thunder Paws' family writes:

He studied the world and all things in it, and gave a great deal of thought to all that he saw. He understood the workings of doorknobs, and of faucets and spigots. He knew that some doors slid while others swung open and that one could do wonderful things with a key - if only he had thumbs.

That was the great frustration of Thunder's life - that he had no thumbs. With thumbs, there would have been little that Thunder could not have accomplished.

He was also a generator of love, and all who knew him loved him.

Oh, yes, there was the occasional skeptic, the "I hate cats" kind of individual who met him but did not love him, but such could not know him.

We who knew him - as best as a human can know the mysteries that make up a cat - all loved him. We still do.

October, 2007 - Susan recently lost her wonderful Fred...she writes  "His fur was like cotton -- just as soft as it could be.  That was his "Elvis impression" in the photo.  He didn't like to be picked up, but he loved to be petted.  He was large and strong.  Of our 3 cats, he was the only one that liked catnip!  He was a good kitty."

                  WHEN TOMORROW STARTS WITHOUT ME
                  by: David Romano

                  When tomorrow starts without me,
                  and I'm not there to see;
If the sun should rise and find your eyes,
                  all filled with tears for me;
I wish so much you wouldn't cry,
                  the way you did today,
while thinking of the many things,
                  we didn't get to say.

I know how much you love me,
as much as I love you,
and each time that you think of me,
                  I know you'll miss me too;
But when tomorrow starts without me,
                  please try to understand,
that an angel came and called my name,
and took me by the hand,
and said my place was ready,
                  in Heaven far above,
and that I'd have to leave behind,
                  all those I dearly love.

But as I turned to walk away,
a tear fell from my eye,
for all life, I'd always thought,
                  I didn't want to die.
I had so much to live for,
                  so much yet to do,
                  it seemed almost impossible,
                  that I was leaving you.

I thought of all the yesterdays,
the good ones and the bad,
I thought of all the love we shared,
and all the fun we had.
                  If I could relive yesterday,
                  just even for awhile,
I'd say goodbye and kiss you
                  and maybe see you smile.

                  But then I fully realized,
                  that this could never be,
                  for emptiness and memories,
would take the place of me.
And when I thought of worldly things,
                  I might miss come tomorrow,
I thought of you, and when I did,
my heart was filled with sorrow.

But when I walked through heaven's gates,
I felt so much at home.
When God looked down and smiled at me,
                  from His great golden throne,
                  He said,
"This is Eternity, all I've promised you".
Today life on Earth is past,
                  but here it starts anew.
                  I promise no tomorrow,
                  but today will always last,
and since each day's the same day,
there's no longing for the past.

But you have been so faithful,
                  so trusting and so true.
Though there were times you did some
things, you knew you shouldn't do.
                  But you have been forgiven
and now at last you're free.
So won't you take my hand
and share my life with me?

So when tomorrow starts without me,
                  don't think we're far apart,
for every time you think of me,

                  I'm right here,
                  in your heart.
