Never a truer word! My "still lives" are always in motion. I do what I can to capture their spirit, their sense of life and vitality and their unique personalities. I hope you enjoy the paintings as much as I enjoy the cats.
Cats are creatures of such beauty and grace, contradiction and fascination. In all their many varieties they are an endless source of material to a painter. Forget the nude! The cat is the epitome of beauty. One moment a cat is an inscrutable feline model of elegance and the next a racing whirlwind chasing an imaginary mouse and having a wonderful time. We could learn a lot from the cat!
I live in London with five crazy cats and a human. I love painting landscapes, cats, dogs and other animals but a particular love of cats has led to me to specializing in feline portraiture. I work mainly in oils and acrylics on fine grained canvas and with acrylics and watercolour on watercolour paper too. In 2004 I became a full member of SOFA, the Society Of Feline Artists...Denise Laurent

As you might imagine, some of the cats above are Denise's family. She writes:
"Ming is the cat in Lavender Cat, you have the close up view of his eyes. He’s a beautiful snow Bengal but a bit of a thug at heart."
"Cassie is On The Stairs, she’s the top cat in our house and rules the roost with a ‘terminate with extreme prejudice’ attitude. People never believe she’s top cat when they see her, she’s so small and our two boys are so huge but when you see her in action you realise she can easily take any of the other cats. She is a benevolent tyrant though and spends a lot of time washing the others as well as imposing her will."
"Charlie is my beautiful brown spotted Bengal and he’s the cat in Hi Rise living. A real softie."
"Muffin is my wonderful Somali. She spends all her time with me in either the office or my studio and considers me her personal property. I’m thrilled with this obviously."
"Chi is our elderly tabby. Elderly but still lively, affectionate and playful. He’s the cat in Snooze. He always sleeps like that, stretched out on the floor with his paws in ‘rabbit’ position."
